Underground

Nobody can tell precisely when Bucharest Underground was born.

One can speak about Underground as about a world that is not present in the media and with which society sometimes cannot keep the pace. It is an avant-garde world, full of raw, unpolished values, a fascinating universe full of surprises.

Especially in Bucharest the Underground phenomenon has evolved in a spectacular way, being at this moment compatible with that of any big capital city in the world. You will take part in rock, punk, hip-hop or jazz concerts, with really very talented artists who refuse playback and do not see music as a means of getting rich, but rather as a purpose in itself.

The event represents the cultural manifesto of the Bucharest Underground movement.

The bands that will make the sound of the Romanian capital city's Underground be heard in Vienna are: “Luna Amară” (“Bitter Moon”, a band that plays classic rock with many modern accents, including the trumpet); “Tiarra” (a gothic music band, using the piano, the violin, the cello and achieving a perfect harmony between rock and classical music); “Nişte Băieţi” (“Some boys”) and “Pistol cu Capse” (Toy-gun), who take us to the Emo Punk zone, a zone that is very recent , lively and dynamic.

Outdoor Concerts

Four bands from three different musical areas: Hip-Hop, Doom, Cross Over. Here we talk about “Zale” and “Dagga”, two reference bands for the Hip-Hop movement in Bucharest and not only. “Coma” is by far the most appreciated band of the genre, combining alternative rock with violent accents, but also with a lot of poetry. “Abigail” is the longest-lived and also the most productive Doom band in Romania. They have the advantage of exceptional instrument players, as well as a very good female vocalist.

Underground NoiZe

This concert starts with the most promising punk-rock band in Bucharest, “ Chester”, followed by a Funk Hip-Hop recital by

“K & Confussion”, a band that can surprise any time by adding jazz accents.

The event continues with the performance of the “Du'te Vino” band, that brings the Jazzy-Pop style to the foreground, giving the impression that they practically re-invent the instruments they play.

The concert will end with the Hip Hop recital of a representative artist for the Bucharest Underground, “Grasu XXL” (Fat Boy XXL).

The best DJs in Romania, united under the name “Turntable Science” will perform in a group of four by mixing best-quality Hip-Hop in a unique show. The concert will continue in a rhythm that is more and more alert, with a very interesting band, “Cap de Craniu” (Skull Head) that combines rapid drums rhythms with rapid guitar riffs and heavy vocal parts. The climax of the event will be an especially energetic and stimulating recital of the band “Crize” (“Crises”) that will impress the audience by using a powerful sound, typical of the movement they belong to, expressing the message of the Underground in a direct and powerful way.

Indoor Concerts

Rock music means first of all message and attitude and the place where this phenomenon appeared and developed is certainly the Club. Three bands will be on stage, representative of the Bucharest rock stage, namely: “Deviant”, “Dodiez” and “Avatar”. We certainly deal here with an explosive show, a show that is about a lot of energy, sound and colour. The video projections to be shown during the entire performance turn it into an extremely original event.

Punk-rock is by far the musical genre with most fans at this point and the bands “Pistol cu Capse” (“Toy Gun”) and “Nişte Băieţi” (“Some Boys”) are undoubtedly two important representatives of the genre in Bucharest's Underground. Their music is fun and has an optimistic tone, the audience vibrates every time in unison with the band. This punk rock marathon will be followed by the recital of the band “Luna Amară” (“Bitter Moon”), that will change direction towards a deeper Rock zone.

A concert of true Metal music, given by two bands that have reached excellence in this genre. “Crize” (“Crises”) and “Cap de Craniu” (“Skull Head”) will liven up the atmosphere and will set spirits on fire with their music. Powerfully hit drums, smoking guitars, basses that make the loudspeakers vibrate and last but not least voices that challenge the pain limit of the ears.

Grafitti

If you look more carefully at the true works of art under bridges or in railway stations called “graffiti’’, you will smile instead of despising the kid with the hood of his sweater turned over his head - the boy that you see hiding a spray tube unskillfully in a very colourful bag.

Graffiti became long ago a truly world-wide-spread phenomenon.

The graphers in Bucharest have enjoyed real success in the national and international genre contests. In Vienna you can see the members of the “FWK” group at work.

Underground does not only mean music and graffiti. Painting, photography and film are other very important branches of this culture.

The connection between photographer and photography represents the purest type of personal relationship. If you try to cheat a photo, it will knock you down and you will recover only with great difficulty; if you are sincere with it, it will reward you with all its power. Photography is a way of cheating death. Death does not exist for photography as long as the person behind the camera knows how to discover life around him and not the death that lays in wait round the corner.
