OFFICIAL STATEMENT

- SAMPLING BUCHAREST – Bucharest Days in Vienna –

May 5 – 26, 2007

As part of SAMPLING BUCHAREST – Bucharest Days in Vienna, Masca Theatre presented on Friday, the 4th of May, in Prater Park and on Saturday, the 5th of May, in Karlplatz the pantomime show – The Statues.
The performance is an original time trip, evoking, for a few moments, the Pompeii of the of the year 79 A.C. – through the five distinct scenes: The Fresco from the Casa dei Misteri (Ana Maria Paslaru, Dora Iftode, Ramona Popa, Ana Daponte, Laura Dumitrascu, Ana Turos, Sorin Dinculescu, Nicolae Punga), Venus (Katy Balca), The Gladiators (Aurel Sorin Sandu, Bogdan Angelescu), Caesar (Cosmin Cretu), Livia and Titus (Magda Frânc si Valentin Mihalache).
On the stages placed in public locations, the statuary groups remain petrified until, on classical or modern music background, they come to life, by turns, telling their stories.
For example, the sketch – The Fresco from the Casa dei Misteri – reproduces the fresco discovered in Pompeii, the performance of the actors presenting the last three minutes of the life of the characters, before the eruption of the volcano: they can only use their gestures, mimicry and the musical background, but the result is impressive.

The Statues were greeted with applause in Prater Park and Karlsplatz, filmed and photographed by the audience, representing a success for our event, SAMPLING BUCHAREST.
