- inaugurations within SAMPLING BUCHAREST –

Vienna , May 4, 2007

On Friday, the 4 th of May of 2007, as part of SAMPLING BUCHAREST – Bucharest Days in Vienna, there took place at Palffy Palace the inauguration of the painting and graphics exhibition – MADE IN RO – EU (Romanian Young Art) and the inauguration of Francisc Attila Vaida’s photo exhibition – Bucharest, A Tourist’s Destination.

The Municipality of Vienna logistically supported such event by providing the exhibition locations.

Bucharest Municipality was officially represented by the political party leaders of the Bucharest Municipality General Council: Mr. Doru Giugula, Mr. Antonel Tanase and Mr. Stan Nicusor, who emphasized the importance of supporting the cultural act by all means, including by political ones.

“I am delighted to be here with you today.

The political dimension of such an evening is backstage – there is no need to mention that, for us, the culture represents a priority and that what we see today stimulates us to increase our efforts, so that the cultural phenomenon should express, as profoundly as possible, our national identity.

We firstly thank to those who exhibited and to those who supported the achievement of such exhibitions”, declared Antonel Tanase.

Made in RO-EU is organized by the Preserving and Capitalizing of the Popular Tradition and Creation Center of Bucharest Municipality. Claudia Virlan, the manager of this center presented the exhibition: It comprises the works of the students from the “Nicolae Tonitza” Plastic Arts High-school – selected by Iuri Isai, the headmaster of the high-school and the curator of the exhibition and the works of the students of the Bucharest National University of Arts, by courtesy of Mrs. Stela Lie, who is lecturer there.”

“We preferred to choose few exhibitors in order to be able to show more of their works, to prove that each of them already has a strong personality. I believe that all the persons exhibiting here will become talented European artists”, explained Mrs. Stela Lie.

Mr. Iuri Isai offered his thanks to the organizers, as well as to the exhibitors, teachers and professors, adding: “I believe that all that happens here says a lot, not only about Tonitza High-school, but also about the Romanian graphic art in general – this event is meant to present and represent a first step in the path of some youngsters, who may become, later on, famous personalities of the European art.

Francisc Attila Vaida’s photo exhibition, Bucharest, A Tourist’s Destination was presented by Mr. Florin Necula, the Manager of the Monument and Tourist’s Patrimony of Bucharest City Administration: “to exhibit Mr. Francisc Attila Vaida in Palffy Palace is very easy, mainly because this is his second European exhibition this year. The opening of the European Commission Session had as background another exhibition of his, a very interesting one. Although the photographer is also a computer specialist, I assure you that he made no intervention in order to make more beautiful what you see here.”

Mr. Vaida spoke about Bucharest’s image he presents in his photos: “The greatest part of my joy of being here, in a European capital, imperial European capital, is generated by the fact that you will see in my photos a clean, European, unpolluted Bucharest. This is how I see the city. I want to thank those who, through their investments, show Bucharest as it should be, European.”

The two exhibitions will be open for the public until May 12, daily between 10:00 and 18:00.
